Cardigans and Cosby Sweaters!

Currently, my favorite article of clothing that I love to throw on with any outfit is a cardigan, or a "Bill Cosby" sweater. In Georgia, winter is not completely over but the temperatures are starting to become a little bit warmer. So, a heavy duty coat is not really needed any more.
Instead, I opt for thick, comfy, oversized sweaters. My favorite places to shop for them are local thrift stores because I can find unique one of a kind pieces. I also like to check the men's section because they normally have a really nice selection of Cosbiesque (just made up a word) sweaters to choose from.

D.I.Y: High-Waisted Shorts

I’ve always wanted to create a pair of high-waisted shorts, but up until recently, I never really knew the proper technique to use. Luckily, one of my good friends is a D.I.Y. guru, and she told me how to make them.
The first thing I decided to do was hit up a local thrift store near my house and get a pair of men’s denim jeans. I opted for men’s jeans instead of “mom” jeans because it was the easiest way (for me) to insure that the pants I bought would be high-waisted. Once I had my jeans, I put them on and decided how short I wanted to cut them. Initially, I made them a little long because I didn’t want to cut them too short and completely ruin them. Then, after the first cut, I tried the shorts on and made adjustments to them until they fit how I wanted them to.
I’ve been thinking about studding them, or maybe distressing them, but I’m not sure yet. Ultimately, I’m really happy with my results, and Im so excited that I have my first pair of high-waisted shorts!

Top Three Thrifting Tips!

Thrifting is one of my favorite ways to shop, and I love it because I am able to find unique and fashionable clothing for a very cheap price. However, even though I love it,  I was NOT always as good at thrifting as I am now. When I first started I would get frustrated because I couldn’t find anything, and I would get irritated because nothing was really organized, and eventually I would just walk out of the store in a cloud of sadness. Then, as I did it more I began to get better, and I discovered some tips that were very helpful in my quest to find good pieces of clothes.
  1. Location is Everything. When choosing a thrift store to go to, remember that that the quality of the clothing is often determined by the location of the thrift store. I wouldn’t go into a sketchy looking thrift store and expect too find a whole lot in it (although there are exceptions sometimes).
  2. Check every rack. It may seem tedious, but some of the best treasures are hidden. Nothing in a thrift store is really organized, and more than likely, there is only one of everything. So, it is imperative that you check every rack of clothes because there could be something really cool there.
  3. Have an open mind. Try to see the clothes for their possibilities and not just their appearance on the rack at that moment. Part of wearing clothes is adding your own swag and style to them. Most of the clothes that I’ve purchased at thrift stores have all been altered in some way to fit my personal style.
So, those are my top three tips for thriting, and I hope they were helpful. Now go spread some love around somewhere! ^_^

OOTD

Please forgive the hot mess that is these photos. I know that they are not the best quality, but I just snapped them real quick on my way out the door. I really liked this outfit because it was super comfy and easy to just throw on. It's pretty cold where I am, so this outfit was perfect for the weather. Also, I really love the color of my sweater. It's a really nice, warm purple.

OOTD

hi! I just wanted to come and do a quick outfit of the day post. This is what I wore to go take family photos yesterday. It's nothing too major, just a simple black sweater dress that I thrifted when I was in DC, some lace tights, my circle scarf, and my new favorite shoes ( I'll give more detail on them in my haul). I also, belted the dress so it would give my body more shape, instead of me just looking like I was drowning in it.

In other news...in case you couldn't tell, I have some new hair! I decided to ditch my usual afro for some long straight locks for the winter and I am loving it! here is a recent picture of my hair from my instagram:

I'm Obsessed

I want a pair of these babies so bad! Unif Hellbounds are so cool! Although I'm sure I would probably fall over trying to walk in them, I still want them because I would still look incredibly fierce standing still. The only trouble is that they, unfortunately, are not made in my size. *sigh* I guess I will just have to admire them on others for now.

OOTD

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I know I ate everything in site! I just wanted to come an do a quick outfit of the day post. I'm continuously trying to evolve my style and I just wanted to come and share. I wore this on Thanksgiving in Michigan and I was actually surprised by how nice the weather was that day. I was actually able to get away with just wearing my black cardigan and my  cranberry circle scarf! I was also really excited because I found this cool shirt in my granny's closet. She wasn't going to wear it, so I stole it! Oh, and I cut the collar off because I liked it better that way.
